Getting started in Affiliate marketing is no doubt the simplest model of business, which you can select for building up a business. The major problem comes about when trying to explain the details, but the overall model can be explained in six steps.

Before getting into the steps, it is important that you question yourself first; over what is it you hope to achieve using affiliate marketing. Even though it may not seem an easy question for you to answer, it actually is. In fact, there are just two major choices in this case.

The first choice is the one I refer to as “quick buck”. This simply means that you wish to make money faster and you have the least interest in building up a business. If I am referring to you here, then you need to understand how to come up with very good ads and afterwards use them for the purposes of promoting the affiliate product you have. Most people will disagree with me but there is no problem doing this, if you are not attempting to build a business on a long-term basis in this manner.

Alternatively, if you hope to build a business with a long-term income potential, you have a long way to go. It will take more time before you can realize any profits from the efforts you have put in. However, it will be satisfying to take some time off, be it a day or week and still be able to record sales while you are away.

The following steps must be followed according to the order. Should you decide not to follow the sequence, you will not be able to get the desired results.

1. Choose a Market

What is the sense in picking a market and not a product? This is done because eventually, you will wish to add more products to your portfolio. It is important for you to identify a market, which interests you and one, which you are familiar with. Remember that you are building for a long-term basis.

2. Chose a product

After you have chosen your market, it is advisable to choose one product that you will start out with. Even though it is very tempting for you to include related products as you start out, do not do it. Using one specific product will assist you in directing your focus on the tasks that are important. You may wish to get a product, which converts well. This simply means that the product is able to sell well to a large portion of visitors. This helps you keep the cost for each visitor down and at the same time give you more profits.

3. Develop follow-up series

This is also referred to as the auto responder series. This should be developed depending on the contents and topic of the product being promoted. If the product is a physical one, you must locate or create content, which has some direct relation with the product. For instance, if the product being sold is a golf club, you can create a series concerning how to purchase fitting golf clubs or write on the advantages of the custom clubs or the club preferences of renowned professional golfers. You should be as creative as possible and make sure you stick to the topic. As has been said before, most sales made are not done during the first contact; they take place during the seventh attempt. If you are not frequently following up your prospects, you could be losing sales.

I don’t want to make the post any longer so I will continue to write the second part of how to start in affiliate marketing tomorrow.

The niche websites you will build to promote your affiliate links will be simple and straightforward websites filled with information of known interest to the people inside the niche you have decided to tap.

The first thing we need to do then is find out exactly what information people in our target market are looking for. We do this with keyword research.

You see, without knowing the exact searches – which reveal the exact questions or problems that people in your niche market are looking for answers to – you’ll have to guess what information to include in your website.

Guessing what website visitors might be looking for isn’t going to bring your website much traffic.

On the other hand, knowing – through keyword research – exactly what information or solutions your visitors are searching for – and providing that information to them – is the secret to a successful affiliate website.

Keyword research involves digging into these databases of search engine queries and uncovering and sorting the related keyword phrases using the following four steps:

1. First, you must uncover the related queries – also known as keyword
phrases – that people in your golden niche are searching for.

2. Next, you will pick out and look at the phrases which are being searched
for most often. This will give you an idea of the general related sub-topics
that are most important to those in your niche.

3. After that, you need to sort the rest of your keyword phrase data into
related groups of long-tail keyword phrases.

4. Finally, you will need to pick out those phrases that have the most profit
potential when turned into content.

Here is what a official at Clickbank saying:

“We’ve encountered prospective clients that speak rudimentary English but are still challenged by industry-specific terms and technical language on the signup forms,” said Dush Ramachandran, vice president of sales, marketing and business development for ClickBank. “The videos address this, making it easy for European vendors and affiliate marketers to join our network, expand their businesses and boost their income.”

This days I am starting to get a lot of questions about how to make money with affiliate programs and I have also seen a lot of question about that in different forums.

“How do I make money with affiliate programs” question is to broad and big to answer just like that. It has many variables and the only answer is; it actually depends.

Think of going to a forum for constructors and asking, “how do I build a house”? The answer you will get would be “it depends on what kind of house you want” – but then too there are so many different stages of building a house it’s hard to explain it all in one sweeping post. There are SO many different ways to get started with affiliate marketing and there is no BEST way or everyone would be doing it and it would no longer work. So the best way to start, in part depends on you!

Think of this questions:

Do you have any site building skills?

Any marketing or advertising background?

Have you done other kinds of online marketing?

You don’t need any of the skill above, but the answer to above could help guide you to find the system that would be fit for you.

The best would be to read up a little more on the basics of affiliate marketing and then try some methods and see what will work for you.

Here’s a basic overview of how it works.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affiliate_marketing

You can also read a lot of good information here at my blog. In couple of days I will put up a affiliate marketing guide on the blog which will help you to get started. Be sure to come back and check it out.

Pay per click advertising can really be like gold. The return of investment can be 300 percent or even higher. But you have to be careful because you will not get that kind of ROI at first. Not without testing and tweaking. And because of the bad economy right now Richard Stokes in the entreprenuer have put together seven tips on how to save money on search advertising.

1. PPC Isn’t Right for Everyone

When pay-per-click works, it works well. But what we don’t usually hear about are the stories of people who lost their entire ad spend. As with anything else in business, it’s best to be realistic from the outset about your chances of success. B2B companies generally have a tougher time making search advertising work. If you sell AC adapters in bundles of 50 or more, for example, you may want to consider other channels. People just aren’t searching for that sort of thing.

After all, the best way to save money in PPC is to not spend any on it. At the very least, do your research before diving in and be sure to start small.

2. Install (And Use!) Website Analytics

Pretend for a moment that instead of promoting your business over the web, you were to take a more traditional approach, such as television advertising. You might be prepared to spend upwards of a quarter-million dollars just for production, to be followed by potentially millions of dollars of national media buys.

With so much at stake, it seems unlikely that you would simply write a check and forget about it. Not by a long shot. I bet you’d be watching the sales figures like a hawk to see if your campaign was bringing customers in. And if it didn’t perform, you’d cut your losses quickly (and probably fire your marketing manager).

3. Optimize Your Website First

If you have tracking installed on your website but haven’t optimized your website’s ability to convert visitors into buyers, you probably won’t be able to compete for the best possible placement for your ads. As a result, your ads will appear infrequently, buried deep within the search results pages. And more importantly, you’ll only be capturing a small percentage of the sales you would have captured by identifying and eliminating sales bottlenecks.

Conversely, if you can improve your sales by 50 percent through the practice of conversion optimization (a very modest goal for most websites), you can easily double the return on your ad spend! This gives you the option of either cutting your spend while maintaining the same revenue or, alternatively, increasing your spend to drive more traffic. The choice is yours.

4. Don’t Use Budget Caps

Google AdWords offers its users the ability to set a maximum daily budget. For instance, even if there is $100 of traffic available, you can tell Google to serve your ads in a way that only generates $50 of clicks. On the surface, this appears to be an excellent way to ensure that you don’t inadvertently overspend on your campaign.

Don’t use it. If you set a budget cap, you force AdWords to make decisions on your behalf about where your ads will appear. For some reason, they usually end up “optimizing” your campaign so that your ads appear for those placements that nobody else seems to want. The result? You stay within your budget but your campaign performs poorly.

A much better practice is to set your bids conservatively (except where your analytics software suggests otherwise) and closely monitor your spend.

5. Let Someone Else Have the Top Spot

Business owners and CMOs tend to be very aggressive about bidding for certain terms, such as their brand names or well-recognized buzzwords. As a result, they bid aggressively to ensure their ads appear near the top of the search results.

This is a very bad practice. Advertisers appearing at the top of the side search results pay an additional 49 percent cost-per-click, which results in far higher campaign spends for what amounts (in most cases) to a small amount of incremental traffic.

Let your competitors have this spot. By bidding just a little lower, you’ll drive nearly the same amount of traffic as they do, but at a far lower cost.

6. Optimize Your Quality Score, Then Optimize It Again

On Google AdWords, each ad is assigned a “quality score” from one to 10. Ads with high quality scores appear more frequently and are charged a lower CPC relative to competitors. Conversely, low quality score ads tend to be more expensive and show far less frequently.

You can improve your quality scores through a combination of keyword matching, ad copy split testing and landing page optimization. These practices, though complicated, are well worth it. Those few advertisers who make them an integral part of their campaigns easily edge out their competitors on the search engines.

7. Turn Your Competitors’ Successes Against Them

In most advertising mediums, it’s the original and innovative marketers who break through the noise. However, search advertising combines highly motivated searchers (prospects) with highly targeted ads. This killer combination means that originality rarely pays off. Innovative ads often confuse visitors and result in low quality scores.

The standard advice given to new search marketers is to split test ad copy repeatedly to improve your click-through rates. While this is reasonable in theory, there are two big drawbacks. The first is that it can take a long time–six months or more–to develop strong ads. The second is that you can never really be sure when your ads are “good enough.”

Google AdWords is designed as a massive evolutionary experiment. Good ads breed. Poor ads die. Why not use that to your advantage? Survey the ads that are appearing most frequently for your keywords and use those to seed your split tests. Instead of starting from the bottom, you’ll start near the top and cut your workload massively.

An easy way to do this is to start with the free AdGooroo keyword site, http://free.adgooroo.com/. Simply enter a keyword or one of your competitors’ domain names in this tool and you’ll be able to quickly find effective ad copy and keywords. And did I mention it’s free?

You see on the newspaper and on TV when they look back on the things that have happened under the year and they sometimes make a list e.g. “10 most beautiful goals 2009” or something. Well I wanted to do something like that for my readers and create a list of the “top 10 affiliate programs” based on my relations and earnings with them under the year of 2009. I would highly recommend any of the programs/networks listed here as “top tier”. And if you think that I should mention a program that is not listed here, please leave a comment with details to that network/program.

1. RevenueWire
My favorite affiliate program. This Is where most of my money comes from. The products are mostly computer software and offers good commission. Revenuewire.com has a range of promotion tools and a great support. You get paid every 2 weeks and they can wire your money to your bank account, which is wonderful for me.

2. Commission Junction
If you call yourself an affiliate than you should have an account with CJ.com. CJ is a market leader, innovater and still an industry standard.

3. Clickbank
Still a strong network/program, and offers a wide range of products to promote. If you are thinking of promoting information products or software than you should have a clickbank account. Have a product for every niche out there.

4. Amazon Associates
I usually make the most money from Amazon during the holidays, especially from about two weeks before Christmas. Under the holiday, this the only network that rescues you with holiday cheer, when the other makes you crying.

5. Google Adsense
Who says that adsense doesn’t work anymore? Well they are lying, I make money with adsense and infact one of my friends earns five figures every months just from adsense. So there are still smart people making a killing with AdSense. And who wouldn’t like to get checks from Google him self.

6. Hydra Network
I haven’t run very many campaigns through Hydra but from what I’ve seen, this network is really good. Hydra’s affiliate interface is one of the best in the business, only second to PepperJam’s. Hydra also has fast phone support as well as prompt email support.

7. NeverblueAds
Once you find an offer that converts, NeverblueAds are best when it comes to statistics. They are also very professional with affiliate support, they answer phone calls and if you leave a message, they will have your issue fixed before they call you back.

8. Paydotcom
A good affiliate program, with both physical and digital products. The best part is that you get rid of checks, you receive your commissions trough paypal. That is great because checks are headache for people like me who lives here in Sweden.

9. Linkshare
LinkShare.com is a good affiliate network with a broad variety of clients. Everything from clothes to credit cards is up for promotion. With such a large selection of brands to choose between you’ll be sure to find something that’s perfect for your website or blog.

10. Pepperjam Network
The Pepperjam Affiliate Network represents some of the biggest and hippest brands on the market today. The thing about Pepperjam network that stands out to me most is their personal service and support.

So what are your favorite networks/programs?
